Exciting news from Bengaluru-based startup, River! They’ve just launched their first-ever electric scooter, called the River Indie, and it’s being dubbed as India’s first maxi electric scooter.
The River Indie is definitely one to watch, with a real-world range of 120km on a single charge. It’s competing with some of the biggest names in the electric scooter market, like the Ola S1 Pro, Ather 450X and Bajaj Chetak.
What’s really cool about this electric scooter is that it’s been designed with practicality in mind. It comes with a crash guard and front set footpegs, which are segment-first features.
The River Indie is available for an introductory price of Rs 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom Bengaluru), and can be preordered now. There are three different colours to choose from – Monsoon Blue, Summer Red and Spring Yellow.
If you’re worried about the battery, don’t be! The River Indie comes with a five-year warranty or 50,000km on the vehicle and the battery pack. Plus, deliveries are expected to start in August 2023.
The electric scooter is powered by a Mid-Drive PMSM electric motor with a peak power output of 9hp paired with a 4kWh Lithium-ion battery pack. With this powertrain configuration, the River Indie can go from zero to 40kmph in just 3.9 seconds, and has a top speed of 90kmph. It even has three different riding modes – Eco, Ride and Rush.
In terms of design, the River Indie is definitely a head-turner. It has a maxi scooter silhouette, twin-pod headlamp and DRL cluster with LED lighting, and 14-inch wheels, which are the largest for any electric scooter in India.
If you’re worried about storage space, the River Indie has got you covered. It has under seat storage of 43 litres, and a front glove box with 12 litres of storage. Plus, it even has pannier stays on the sides, allowing you to add bags for extra storage.
Aravind Mani, CEO and co-founder of River, said, “River’s mission is to improve the day-to-day lives of people through a design-first approach. Our first product Indie is a bold statement, combining two different offerings — utility and lifestyle. It will be the most sensible scooter with the right mix of practicality, capability and style.”
The company has plans to expand to 50 other Indian cities by 2024, and intends to set up a fast-charging network across the country. So, keep an eye out for the River Indie – it could be the next big thing in electric scooters!
