Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has big plans for electric vehicles (EVs) in India. The company wants to launch two new electric two-wheelers in India in the coming years.
Both the EVs will have both fixed and swappable battery options.
Honda is creating a new platform called Platform E for its EVs. It will also set up battery-swapping stations at over 6,000 places across India, starting with Bangalore.
Honda is also converting some of its service centres into electric vehicle workshops called Workshop ‘E’. The company’s electric vehicles will be made at a new factory in Karnataka. Honda plans to make 1 million EVs by 2030.
Honda’s move into the electric two-wheeler space will pit it against other companies like TVS, Bajaj, and Hero MotoCorp, who have already started making electric scooters and motorcycles.
There has been a lot of expectation that the upcoming electric scooter would retain the Activa nameplate. But there is no indication of that happening.
