Royal Enfield’s latest offering, the Himalayan 450, took center stage at the EICMA show in Milan, marking its global debut. This adventure touring motorcycle boasts a robust 452 cc liquid-cooled engine, capable of delivering 40 PS of power. The highly anticipated pricing details for this model will be unveiled in India on November 24, with subsequent announcements for Europe, the Asia Pacific region, and the Americas.
Scheduled for release on November 10, a comprehensive ride review of the Himalayan 450 will be accessible on YouTube. Under the hood, this beast is powered by a brand-new 452 cc single-cylinder DOHC liquid-cooled four-valve Sherpa engine, featuring fuel injection technology. It churns out an impressive maximum power of 40.02 PS at 8,000 rpm, while peak torque of 40 Nm is achieved at 5,500 rpm. Paired with a six-speed transmission equipped with a standard slip and assist clutch, this motorcycle promises a thrilling ride.
CEO B Govindarajan shed light on the development process, stating, “Before we started working on the new Himalayan, we rode with our consumers, and spoke to globetrotters, explorers, and athletes. With the help of these insights and our own experience, we decided critical DNA we needed to retain and a few we had to evolve on the new Himalayan. The all-new Himalayan 450 is mated with the Sherpa 450, liquid-cooled engine, a first of its kind from Royal Enfield.”
Constructed on a steel, twin-spar tubular frame, this dual-purpose adventure bike features 43 mm upside-down forks with 200 mm of wheel travel at the front and a link-type monoshock rear suspension with the same 200 mm of wheel travel. Braking is facilitated by a 320 mm ventilated front disc with dual-piston calipers and a 270 mm ventilated rear disc with a single-piston caliper, all backed by a dual-channel ABS system.
The motorcycle measures 2,245 mm in length, 852 mm in width, and 1,316 mm in height, with a wheelbase spanning 1,510 mm and a seat height that can go up to 845 mm. With a capacious 17-liter fuel tank and a ground clearance of 230 mm, it sports a 21-inch front and a 17-inch rear spoked wheel fitted with Ceat-sourced tires in sizes 90/90-21 and 148/80-17.
Notable features of the Himalayan 450 include a ride-by-wire throttle system, a distinctive round-shaped LED headlamp, a circular TFT instrument console seamlessly integrated with Google Maps, a convenient USB charging port, split seats, switchable rear ABS, and two ride modes (Eco and Performance). The bike is available in five eye-catching paint schemes, namely Kaza Brown, Salte Himalayan Salt, Slate Poppy Blue, Hanle Black, and Kamet White.
